'Living a Nightmare': Families of Missing Teenagers Await Information After Alpine Inferno

The relatives of young people missing after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are enduring an excruciating wait for confirmed information and pleading for any details about their loved ones via social media.

The blaze ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Circulated images reveal the ceiling catching alight as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Authorities have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the fire, which killed four dozen individuals and hurt another scores more. A spokesperson noted on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with work ongoing to locate the other six.

In the interim, relatives have been taking to the internet to request clues about their missing relatives who were in attendance that evening.

Appeals for the Unaccounted For

The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.

The resident of Lutry near the city, told a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.

"This is a living nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. It's terrible," she said.

She explained that some of his friends had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."

The Italy's government has indicated that six of its young people remain missing.

Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now residing in the UAE.

The national sporting body has stated that he is deceased, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who embodied dedication and authentic values."

His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the bar.

"Someone with him said they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.

One of his teachers said, "He was known for his kindness and smile, coupled with great responsibility. He would frequently ask if help out."

Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.

Her sibling has posted an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.

Officials from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the case.
