Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months after leading derogatory songs directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year spell with Leeds finished by mutual consent this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Past History Involving the Striker & the Manager

Both men had history before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford looking to revive his career.

The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Career Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
