The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
